2.) Happy to see your stuff on the shelf again!

Yum! 5 Boroughs is some of the best ice cream I've ever had (Bakla-Wha?! and Cha Cha Chocolate are basically perfection in a pint for me), and I'm happy to see it regularly appearing on the shelves of St. Marks Market again. Thanks for keeping me fat and happy!

Hey there!
My husband and I stopped into Barzini's for some B&J's but cracked up when we saw "Staten Island Landfill" as a flavor. We are at the bottom of the pint and have totally enjoyed it. Fabulous flavor!

5.) Subject: ciao bella who?

I just returned from a lovely holiday in the Italian Lake District. My boyfriend and I were clearing our cache and just relaxing in the countryside but during our entire sojourn couldn't find really great gelato. Amazing, creamy, uniquely flavored Italian gelato. I guess even Italy's famous ice cream has gone a bit mainstream with the same flavors and mixes in so many places (thank goodness for one or two masters in Florence and Rome).

Anyway, I came home today and while shopping discovered your 5 Boroughs. At first I laughed because the brand identity (yes I am a marekting person) is genius. But it quickly became apparent that it's also authentic and speaks loads of the innovator behind the pint.

So, I picked up SoHo -- thought I'd check out your take on the neighborhood, and I loved it. Cannot wait to venture to S.I. -- it may be my only journey over there :)

Best of luck to you on what seems to be a great business idea and thoroughly enjoyable product -- satisfying my craving for the oh so creamy stuff that I couldn't find in Italia.

Ciao. Rayna

7.) Dear Scott and Kim,

Last night I discovered Bakla - Wha!?, and I’m impressed. I loved the flavor and the inventiveness of the concept behind it, and most of all, the fact that it’s a local product. I’ve been inventing ice cream, sorbet, and unholy frozen concoctions in my apartment for years now, much to the sometimes delight and sometimes consternation of my friends. There seems to be a pretty solid divide on my Black Pepper Ice Cream and Chocolate and Cayenne Pepper Ice Cream recipes. But the fact that you took a dream and ran with it impresses the hell out of me. Go get ‘em!

8.) I bought your ice cream for the first time last Thursday. I also bought a pot of Haagen-Dazs, after I ate your ice cream and tried eating HD I simple couldn’t even have any more, I never finished my HD ice cream I left in the freezer for my roommate and I am on my fourth pot of 5B would be on my 5th but they didn’t have the flavor I wanted. By the way I am not a pig, I work out and am very health conscious but if I am going to indulge in something it definitely have to be in that level.

Good luck guys!

PS. The packaging design does not make justice to your product though, I like that you used only 2 colors and your choice of colors, however your ice cream deserves a much better presentation. Branding is everything!

Well that’s not true. I do a lot. But not normally to an ice cream company. I travel constantly and just moved to the NoLita area. I am very impressed with your ice cream. The creativity. The unique flavors that represent this wonderful city! I respect you for your passion within the endeavor.

Good Luck! Wishing you Success and Sunshine Always! Happy Holidays!

Mmmmmm, yummy! I stopped by St. Mark’s Market, and I’m always on the lookout for new & different ice creams. My favorite chocolates (Jacques Torres makes my favorite- it’s called Wicked Fun) and hot chocolates are always the ones that have some spice to them. I was on my way home, and I wanted to splurge... Your ice cream was heaven! I can’t wait to try all of the other flavors. And is Holy F’n Cannoli really discontinued forever?! I wish I had the chance to try that.

Thanks for an amazing ice cream experience!! -SARA

Hi! I discovered your ice cream at St Mark’s Market and fell in love. On your website I saw the Cannoli flavor, which I hadn’t seen before... then I saw it was discontinued. What happened? Anyway, keep up the great work. I’ve been pushing it on all of my friends and we’re all getting fat

I have never liked coffee flavor ice cream as a rule.

But, this sample was extremely light in texture and had no “heavy-Duty” coffee after taste (which is why I do not go for this particular flavor in general).

I found it very satisfying and just damn tasty and deliciously wicked!!

The Bad and Ugly...

*full review:

I read the article in today's Times and went out to Gourmet Garage to get a pint of Cha Cha Chocolate. Basically inedible -- the kind of thing you would expect to see advertised in the back of a comic book ("trick your unsuspecting friends with red-hot ice cream!!!). I can't believe that anyone in the south bronx eats this. Maybe that's why it was on sale. You may have a cool brand and a contact at the NY Times, but that alone doesn't make for good ice cream. I suggest you take a trip to Bellvale Farms Creamery in Warwick to experience real flavors made with local ingredients. As for me, I 'm headed out to get a pint of Breyers to get the taste out of my mouth.
